HiTi P525L error codes and what they mean
The P525L reports faults as a four-digit code on its LCD. The codes below are the ones HiTi documents in the P525L user manual, with the corrective action for each.
The front cover is open.
The front cover did not open when commanded.
No RFID key detected.
No ribbon detected.
The installed ribbon does not match the RFID tag.
Unsupported ribbon type.
The ribbon is empty.
Paper is not loaded.
The paper roll is empty.
The paper roll is installed incorrectly.
The loaded paper size does not match the ribbon.
Codes 0200, 0202 and 0203 are all RFID-related. The P525L reads an RFID tag on the ribbon spool to identify the media and count prints. If the tag is missing, mismatched or unrecognised, the printer stops. Keep paper and ribbon together as supplied, and use genuine HiTi print kits.
Print quality problems and printer faults
HiTi's symptom table is the fastest way to tell a cleaning issue from a hardware fault. Two symptoms in particular have very specific causes.
A straight stripe is not printing
The thermal print head is dirty. Clean it as described in the maintenance section below. If the blank stripe remains after cleaning, HiTi attributes it to the print head working loose — that one needs a dealer or service centre.
Dotted areas are not printing
The roller is dirty rather than the head. Clean the roller with ethyl alcohol on gauze. Stripes point to the head; dots point to the roller.
The printer never reaches ready
Check the front cover is properly closed, check for jammed paper, and if the paper setting lamp is off, feed the leading edge of the paper in until the lamp lights.
The computer does not see the printer
Check the USB cable at both the computer and the printer. The P525L connects over USB 2.0 to the Type B slot; the Type A slot is for designated HiTi devices only and must not be used to charge phones or tablets.
The front cover will not open
Check the printer is sitting on a flat surface and that nothing is obstructing the door. The P525L loads from the front and needs clear space ahead of it.
The printer will not power on
Check the power cable is firmly connected at both ends. The P525L expects AC 100–240V, 50/60 Hz at 4A, and HiTi requires the printer to be grounded during operation.
Paper jams, torn ribbon and power loss mid-print
All three are recoverable in the field. These summaries follow HiTi's documented procedures.
Clearing a paper jam
Open the front cover. If paper is folded inside the printer, draw it out gently and slowly. Cut off the folded or already-printed section with scissors, cutting straight and at right angles to the roll. Then pull the paper out until the paper sensor indicator goes off before reloading.
Why the cut matters
HiTi is explicit about this: if the creased or printed section is not cut off, the printer will jam again every time, or the ribbon may snap during printing. An uneven or angled cut causes the same problem. This is the single most common reason a jam repeats.
Repairing a broken ribbon
Tape the broken section of ribbon back together, then turn the ribbon on the rewinding side and wind the taped section completely and tightly onto the spool before printing again.
Power lost during printing
Always power the printer back on to reset it. HiTi warns that leaving the printer in this state for a long time can warp the platen. Switch the printer off, wait at least three seconds, then switch it on. A paper jam message will appear — open the front cover and clear it as above.
Jams that keep coming back
If jams recur after clean cuts and correct loading, HiTi treats it as a mechanical defect and directs you to a dealer or service centre rather than further field attempts.
Before you move the printer
Remove the ribbon and paper first. Close the front cover while the power is still on, wait for the LCD to show that the ribbon is missing, then switch off. Do not switch off with the front cover open. The printer weighs about 18 kg, and HiTi recommends two people for transport.
Not sure whether it is the printer or the media?
We have supplied HiTi media to photo booth operators and event photographers since 2010. If you are seeing a fault you cannot place, call us before booking a repair — an RFID or paper-mismatch code is usually a media issue, not a hardware one.
Call 305-653-0037 Contact usRoutine maintenance schedule
HiTi states that daily maintenance is unnecessary if the printer is used properly, but recommends a specific monthly routine to keep print quality consistent.
Monthly — print head and roller
Clean the heating element, the glass bar of the thermal print head, with ethyl alcohol on gauze. Clean the black roller the same way. Power off first and let the head cool completely — it runs hot and fingerprints on the heating element can damage it. Wait five minutes for the gauze to dry fully before closing up.
As needed — outer cabinet
Wipe with a soft cloth. For stubborn marks, dampen the cloth and use a weak neutral detergent. Never use volatile solvents or spray insecticide near the cabinet — both cause discolouration or cracking.
As needed — filter and scrap bin
Vacuum dust off the openings. Empty the scrap receptacle regularly rather than waiting for it to fill. On a booth printer running weekends, check both between events.
Media storage
HiTi specifies below 30°C and under 60% humidity for both paper and ribbon, stored flat, dry and out of direct sunlight. A hot vehicle or storage unit over a summer will degrade media before it is ever loaded.
Reading the LCD: press the Menu button in standby to cycle through prints made, media remaining as prints used against total, paper cutting mode, language and current firmware version. Media remaining is the fastest way to decide whether you can finish an event on the loaded roll.
Which P525L print kit produces which print size
The P525L supports fifteen output sizes, but each one comes from a specific print kit. This chart is the reference to check before ordering — several sizes are only available from a perforated kit.
4×6 comes from two different kits. Both the 4×6 kit and the 6×8 kit can produce a 4×6 print, but the yields and the cost per print differ considerably. If 4×6 is your main output, the 4×6 kit is the one to order.
Two things the manual is firm about. Do not run 5-inch and 6-inch media families in the same printer. And when using 5×7 paper, the optional paper adapters must be fitted to the paper flanges first — one adapter per flange, for the 5-inch core.
HiTi P525L media yields
P525L print kits contain two paper rolls and two matched ribbons, so carton totals are double the per-roll figure.
Prints per roll and per carton
Note on 5×7 yield: HiTi's user manual and its product page currently list different figures for 5×7 capacity. Rather than publish a number we cannot stand behind, we would rather you call — we will confirm the current carton yield before you order. 305-653-0037
Keep one unopened kit in reserve
If you came here for a driver or an error code, you already own the printer. Event attendance, repeat sessions and duplicate-print requests routinely push actual volume past the original estimate — and a P525L with no media stops the print portion of the experience entirely. We ship genuine HiTi kits nationwide and handle volume and recurring orders.

HiTi P525L drivers and firmware
HiTi distributes drivers, firmware, software and colour profiles through a single Download Service covering its full printer range.
Open HiTi's Download Service, choose the download category you need, then select the P525L. The categories HiTi publishes are driver, firmware, software, system, colour management profile, app, user manual, warranty notice and discontinued product.
Confirm both the printer model and your operating system before installing. HiTi lists Windows 7 and above and macOS 10.6 and above for the P525L, but the specific build offered changes over time.
Before an event, not during one. A driver or firmware update is worth doing when you have time to make a real test print — same computer, same software, same template, same print size you will run on the day. Updating an hour before a wedding is how a working setup becomes a broken one.

HiTi repair and technical support
EventPrinters.com does not repair HiTi printers. HiTi handles technical diagnosis, warranty decisions and service directly.
Before you contact HiTi
Have these ready. It shortens the process considerably:
The exact error code from the LCD, if there is one. The firmware version, readable from the Menu button. The total prints made and media remaining, from the same menu. Whether the fault occurs with a fresh roll or only with a partly used one. Your operating system and version, and whether printing goes through booth software, the Prinbiz app or a direct driver print.
If the fault produces an RFID or mismatch code, check the media first — those are rarely hardware.
Who maintains this page
EventPrinters.com is operated by Southtrend Corp., based in Miami, Florida. Southtrend has worked in professional photo printing since 1996 and has been an authorized HiTi dealer since 2010, supplying HiTi printers and genuine print kits to photo booth companies, event photographers, studios, schools and attractions across the United States.
We maintain this page the way we would want a supplier to: every link is opened and re-checked on a fixed schedule, and every specification is taken from HiTi's own manual and product documentation rather than from retailer listings, which frequently carry stale or transposed figures.
Where HiTi's own sources disagree — as they currently do on 5×7 capacity — we say so and ask you to call rather than publish a number we cannot stand behind. Where a figure could not be verified, we leave it out.
HiTi Digital, Inc. remains the authoritative source for drivers, firmware, warranty decisions, technical diagnosis and repair. Our role is to get you to the right HiTi resource faster, and to keep the printer supplied once it is running.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I download the HiTi P525L user manual?
HiTi publishes the English P525L user manual as a PDF on its own website, and links it from the P525L product page. The current revision is dated March 2025 and covers safety, installation, ribbon and paper loading, printer transportation, the operation panel, routine maintenance, error messages, paper jam recovery and full specifications.
Where can I download the HiTi P525L Windows or macOS driver?
Both come from HiTi's Download Service, which covers HiTi's full printer range in one place. Choose the download category you need, then select the P525L. HiTi lists Windows 7 or above and macOS 10.6 or above as supported operating systems for this printer, but the specific build offered changes over time, so confirm compatibility before installing.
What does error 0202 or 0203 mean on a HiTi P525L?
Both are RFID errors. Code 0202, Ribbon Mismatch, means the installed ribbon does not match its RFID tag, which usually happens when components from different print kits are mixed. Code 0203, Security Check Fail, means the ribbon type is not supported and is the code most often seen with non-genuine media. Code 0200, IC Chip Missing, means no RFID key was detected at all.
What does error 0600 Paper Mismatch mean?
The loaded paper roll size does not match the installed ribbon. Fit the paper roll that belongs with that ribbon. Paper and ribbon must come from the same print kit and are not interchangeable between kit sizes.
Why does my P525L keep jamming in the same place?
Usually because the creased or already-printed section of paper was not cut off after the previous jam. HiTi is explicit that leaving it causes a jam every time, or can snap the ribbon during printing. Cut the paper straight and at right angles to the roll direction. If jams continue after clean cuts and correct loading, HiTi treats it as a mechanical defect requiring service.
Why is there a blank stripe or missing dots on my prints?
A straight stripe that does not print indicates a dirty thermal print head; missing dotted areas indicate a dirty roller. Clean the relevant part with ethyl alcohol on gauze after powering off and letting the head cool. If the blank stripe remains after cleaning, HiTi attributes it to the print head working loose, which needs a dealer or service centre.
How often should a HiTi P525L be cleaned?
HiTi states that daily maintenance is not necessary when the printer is used properly, but recommends cleaning the thermal print head and roller once a month to maintain print quality. Power off first and allow the head to cool, clean with ethyl alcohol on gauze, and wait five minutes for it to dry completely before closing up.
Which print sizes can the HiTi P525L produce?
Each size comes from a specific print kit. The 4x6 kit produces 4x6, 2x6 photo booth strips and 1.33x6. The 5x7 kit produces 5x7, 5x5 and 3.5x5. The 6x8 kit produces 6x8, 6x6, 5x6 and 4x6. The 4x6 perforated kit produces 3x4, 2x3 and 1.33x3, and the 6x8 perforated kit produces 3x8, 3x6, 3x5 and 3x4.
Can the P525L print 2x6 photo booth strips?
Yes. HiTi lists 2x6 as an output size produced from the 4x6 print kit, alongside standard 4x6 prints and 1.33x6.
How many prints does a P525L print kit produce?
Print kits contain two paper rolls and two matched ribbons. HiTi lists 500 prints per roll at 4x6, giving 1,000 per carton, and 250 per roll at 6x8, giving 500 per carton. HiTi's manual and product page currently list different figures for 5x7 capacity, so we recommend confirming that one before ordering.
How fast does the HiTi P525L print?
In standard mode HiTi specifies approximately 12.8 seconds for a 4x6 print, 18.5 seconds for 5x7 and 20.5 seconds for 6x8.
Does the HiTi P525L support wireless printing?
Yes, as a field upgrade. HiTi lists wireless printing using a plug-and-play WiFi dongle, sold as an optional accessory, alongside memory card and PC link as printing methods. USB 2.0 remains the standard computer connection. Mobile printing is supported through the Prinbiz app on iOS and Android.
Can the P525L print glossy and matte?
Yes. HiTi lists glossy as the default surface finish with matte also available.
