The DNP WCM Plus Wireless Connect Module adds wireless photo-printing capabilities to compatible DNP professional dye-sublimation printers. It allows photographers, photo booth operators, event professionals and retail users to send photos from supported mobile devices and computers without connecting those devices directly to the printer.
The WCM Plus supports several professional printing workflows including WCM Print, AirPrint/IPP, Hot Folder and SFTP. How Does the DNP WCM Plus Work?
- Connect the printer: Connect your compatible DNP printer to one of the WCM Plus USB printer ports using the printer cable.
- Power the WCM Plus: Connect the supplied USB-C power adapter and allow the WCM Plus to boot.
- Connect your device: Join the WCM Plus hotspot or configure the WCM Plus for your local network.
- Select your printing method: Depending on your device and workflow, use WCM Print, AirPrint/IPP, Hot Folder or another supported DNP method.
- Send your photo: Choose the appropriate printer and print size and submit the image for printing.
Does the DNP WCM Plus Need Internet Access?
Not for every printing workflow. Devices can connect directly to the WCM Plus hotspot for local printing.
However, if the photo you want to print is stored in a cloud service, the WCM Plus must have internet access through a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection so the device can retrieve that cloud-based image.
The WCM Plus can also connect to a local Wi-Fi network. This can make compatible printers available to devices on that network and provide internet access to devices connected through the WCM Plus hotspot.
How Fast Is the DNP WCM Plus?
DNP specifies a WCM Plus transfer time of approximately 10–12 seconds for a 4×6 photo.
This specification refers to the transfer of the image through the WCM Plus. It is not the same as the mechanical print speed of the connected DNP printer. After the image is transferred, the printer produces the physical photo according to that printer's own print-speed specifications.
WCM Plus Adds Panoramic Printing to the DNP DS620A
The WCM Plus provides an additional capability for owners of the popular DNP DS620A .
DNP states that the DS620A can create 6×14 and 6×20 panoramic prints using standard 6×8 media when the printer is running firmware version 1.52 or later and is used with the WCM Plus or DNP Hot Folder Print version 2.2 or later.
This makes the WCM Plus particularly interesting for DS620A users who want to expand their event-printing product offering beyond standard photo sizes.
