WCM Plus at a Glance

What Is the DNP WCM Plus?

Short answer: the DNP WCM Plus is a wireless and network connectivity accessory for compatible DNP professional photo printers. It receives image files from supported devices and sends the print jobs to DNP printers connected to it by USB.

The WCM Plus is not a photo printer. It does not change your printer's native resolution, media capacity, photographic quality or mechanical printing speed.

What it changes is the way images reach your printer. This can create a much more flexible workflow for photo booths, event photographers, studios, retail photo counters and corporate activations.

The Basic Workflow

How Does the DNP WCM Plus Work?

Your phone, tablet or computer communicates with the WCM Plus. WCM Plus then sends the image to a compatible DNP printer connected to it with a USB printer cable.

Phone, Tablet or Computer Send photos using a supported mobile, Windows or Mac printing workflow.
DNP WCM Plus Receives the image and manages the selected printer and print-size workflow.
DNP Photo Printer The compatible printer remains physically connected to WCM Plus by USB.

Important: WCM Plus does not add Wi-Fi hardware inside the photo printer itself. It acts as the wireless bridge between your device and the USB-connected DNP printer.

01

Wireless Photo Printing

Send images from supported mobile devices, Windows computers and Macs without connecting those devices directly to the printer.

02

Multiple Print Sources

DNP states that many devices can submit print jobs to WCM Plus simultaneously, making it useful for event environments.

03

Up to Three Printers

Three USB printer ports allow up to three compatible DNP printers to be connected directly at the same time.

04

Crop & Edit Photos

WCM Print includes tools such as cropping, color correction, filters, fit/fill adjustments and drawing or annotation.

05

Custom Borders

Load event frames, sponsor graphics, branded overlays and other border templates into supported print workflows.

06

Print Queue & Reprints

The print queue can provide quick access to recently printed images for convenient reprints when image archiving is enabled.

Flexible Ways to Send a Print

WCM Plus Printing Methods

The WCM Plus supports several printing methods, allowing photographers and booth operators to choose a workflow appropriate for their device and application.

Browser-Based

WCM Print

Access the WCM Plus portal, select images, choose a printer and print size, adjust the image and submit the job.

Native Printing

AirPrint / IPP

Supported devices can use standard AirPrint/IPP workflows to select an available printer and print size.

Production Workflow

Hot Folder

DNP documents Hot Folder workflows for supported iOS, Android, Windows and Mac systems for streamlined image submission.

Advanced Workflow

FTP / SFTP

FTP and SFTP file-transfer workflows are also available for users integrating WCM Plus into more specialized systems.

Quick-Start Workflow

How to Set Up the DNP WCM Plus

Exact screens and settings may change with firmware, but the basic installation workflow is straightforward.

1
Prepare the Printer

Power on the compatible DNP printer and verify that media is loaded and no printer errors are present.

2
Connect the Printer

Connect the printer to one of the WCM Plus USB printer ports using the supplied printer cable.

3
Power WCM Plus

Connect the supplied 5V / 3A USB-C power supply and allow the WCM Plus to start.

4
Connect Your Device

Join the WCM Plus hotspot or use your configured local network connection.

5
Make a Test Print

Verify printer selection, print size, crop, orientation, border and final output before production begins.

QW410 power note: DNP states that the USB-A output on the QW410 does not meet the specified WCM Plus power requirement. Use the supplied WCM Plus 5V / 3A power supply.

Professional event tip: test the exact complete workflow before guests arrive: device + network + WCM Plus + printer + media + printing method + final print size.

Hotspot, Wi-Fi or Ethernet

Does the DNP WCM Plus Need Internet Access?

Not for every workflow. WCM Plus can create its own local hotspot, connect to an existing Wi-Fi network, or support wired printing configurations.

WCM Plus Hotspot

Devices can connect directly to the WCM Plus hotspot for local printing without depending on a venue's Wi-Fi network.

This is useful at weddings, convention centers and other events where venue wireless service may be crowded or unavailable.

Existing Wi-Fi Network

WCM Plus can connect to a compatible local Wi-Fi network and make supported printers available to devices on that network.

Internet access is useful when images must be retrieved from cloud storage or another online service.

Wired Printing

DNP also documents wired mobile-device printing using a compatible Ethernet adapter and Ethernet cable.

This can provide an alternative when heavy wireless traffic makes Wi-Fi image transfer unreliable.

Cloud-image consideration: if the photo is stored online rather than already downloaded to the device, internet connectivity may still be needed even though local printing itself can operate through the WCM Plus hotspot.

Understand the Specification

Wireless Transfer Time vs. Printer Speed

DNP currently specifies an approximately 10–12 second transfer time for a 4×6 image.

That is the time associated with transferring the image through the WCM Plus workflow. It is not the same as the mechanical printing speed of the attached photo printer.

Think of it as two stages: first, the image reaches WCM Plus and is transferred to the printer. Then the DNP printer performs its normal physical printing process.

Actual wireless transfer performance can vary depending on image size, device performance, Wi-Fi traffic and other network conditions.

Professional Multi-Printer Workflow

Connect Up to Three DNP Printers

Three USB printer ports allow up to three compatible DNP printers to be connected directly to one WCM Plus at the same time.

This can be useful when an event-printing business wants access to multiple print sizes or wants an additional printer available without constantly reconnecting equipment.

  • Offer different available print sizes.
  • Reduce unnecessary media changes.
  • Centralize several DNP printers in one workflow.
  • Give operators clearer control over printer selection.
  • Create additional redundancy for busy professional setups.

Professional Workflow Advice

Tips for Reliable WCM Plus Event Printing

Wireless printing adds flexibility, but professional event reliability still depends on testing the entire workflow before production begins.

Test the Complete System

Test your actual device, network, WCM Plus, printer, media and print size together before the event begins.

Keep Firmware Current

Check DNP documentation before important deployments, particularly after major operating-system or device changes.

Plan for Wi-Fi Congestion

Convention centers, hotels and corporate venues can contain large numbers of competing wireless devices.

Consider a Wired Backup

DNP documents wired printing as an option when heavy Wi-Fi traffic interferes with wireless image transfer.

Label Multiple Printers

When several printers are connected, make print-size assignments and printer identification obvious to operators.

Test Borders at Final Size

Confirm logos, text and important artwork remain safely inside the printable area before using custom borders at an event.
